Hair grows without instruction. The beard arrives as marker, as choice, as inevitability depending on who is watching. It is the first thing on the face that cannot be erased by washing. It announces. It conceals. To style it is to claim it; to neglect it is also a claim. The toys teach through action. The beard teaches through refusal to disappear.
