The Weight of Shadow
This series investigates the intersection of domestic objects and the architectural shapes they cast. By projecting silhouettes onto raw canvas, I am exploring how negative space can strip away the utility of an everyday item, transforming it into a dense, graphic mark.
The work is built on a physical paradox: while these shadows appear as heavy as ink sinking into the fabric, they represent a literal absence of weight. Because light is comprised of particles that exert physical pressure, a shadow is the only space on the canvas where that pressure is missing. By capturing these forms against the grit of the canvas, I aim to give a tangible gravity to an absence—turning a void into something that feels as solid as the object itself.
